It’s the weekend-and I finally got a new blog post for you guys! YAY! For today’s post, I wanted to outline my honest* experience with Dermalogica products & their Pro Skin 30 masking session that I was able to experience a few weeks ago! This Dermalogica post will be a two-part series where I will outline the Pro Skin 30 experience in part I and then part II will go more in-depth with the 3 products that I received. I wanted to truly test out their products that I received after this session and gather my thoughts on the WHOLE experience.
So HERE we go with part I!
ABOUT THE BRAND
While the Dermalogica story begins in 1986, the force of change in the industry started in Los Angeles, circa 1983. Jane Wurwand, a tenured, United Kingdom-trained skin therapist new to the American “esthetician” industry, recognized that continuing skin and body therapy education was practically non-existent in the United States.
Jane put her education in action, opening a small classroom in Marina del Rey, California under the name The International Dermal Institute (IDI). She invited licensed skin therapists to get hands-on with the postgraduate training so critical to making them competitive in the business. Today, IDI is considered the international gold-standard for postgraduate skin and body therapy training with 37 locations worldwide.
While teaching at IDI, it didn’t take long for Jane to realize no product line embraced her belief of skin health as opposed to “beauty,” so she developed her own. And in 1986, Dermalogica was born. The vision was clear – a product line free of common irritants and ingredients that could cause breakouts (including lanolin, SD alcohol, mineral oil, artificial colors and fragrances) that would improve skin health, and were only available from qualified skin care professionals trained at The International Dermal Institute.
Today, Dermalogica is the number one choice of skin care professionals worldwide and has over 100,000 therapists around the world.

EXPERIENCE
I’ve never used Dermalogica before OR have ever went to a Sephora Face Bar, so when I got an email asking if I wanted to try the masking experience I was ecstatic- I thought that it’d be a great experience to try out… & GIRL was I right.
FACE MAPPING & SKIN ANALYSIS
I arrived to my appointment where I was met by Veronica, and she started to take a face map of my skin which is a complimentary service that “scans” the skin in order to give the specialist an idea of what they’re working with. This in turn is supposed to help them in finding out which products will be right for recommending. She then asked me a few questions before we started the whole process because she wanted to make sure that the mask “fit” according to my needs and overall target the problem areas that I really wanted her to focus on.
It was great that I was able to express what I wanted to get out of the session, and Veronica made sure to deliver exactly WHAT I wanted. For example, my skin is sensitive at times and fairly dry and textured during colder temperatures so I wanted her to help with those types of issues. I asked her to help with brightening of the face due to a few small acne spots that I still had, and she was able to point me in the right direction in terms of what products I could use to help in the process of getting rid of them. Overall this first initial chat was really helpful and I felt truly welcomed. It felt like I was talking to a friend!
Right before the masking process, Veronica used BT Gear- a specialized magnifier that helped her in seeing what was happening on the skin’s surface. This was called “BT Vision” and it seemed to give her some good insight of what my skin really needed. She was able to tell me exactly what I couldn’t see using this special technology which was great. I learned about a few issues that I didn’t know about and she made sure to include that in my skin analysis report. She then used a product called “face fit” to penetrate the skin by using micro sound waves. Veronica also showed me a few other products that they use exclusively for these Pro Skin masking sessions in order to further penetrate the skin properly and they worked really well! This part of the experience helped my skin absorb the products better overall.
During this time Veronica also used a pre-cleanse to get rid of excess dirt and oils which prepped my skin for all of these special technologies and techniques. She then went in with a brightening mask and proceeded to remove all the black spots on my nose. This part wasn’t fun because it hurt a tad bit BUT that’s usually what happens when getting these stubborn little guys out unfortunately, so I already knew what to expect at this point. After all the extractions were done, she also gave me a little face massage and applied some finishing products to the face. This felt really nice and my skin looked AMAZING afterwards!
RESULTS
After the session was finished, I noticed that my skin had a beautiful radiance to it and that it was oh-so-smooth. Veronica was able to do a bit of extractions which left my complexion red BUT noticeably free of blackheads and stubborn acne. I was so pleased with the results overall- and I had no expectations. I was truly in awe of how cool the gadgets were and I really liked how my skin looked and felt during this whole process. Overall, I left with a complexion that I truly was happy with! My skin was GLOWING & it felt so smooth.
PRODUCTS
Veronica prescribed a few products for me after the session and the Dermalogica team sent me the 3 products that they thought would benefit my skin the most.
